The surrounding area is renowned for its scenic beauty and friendly atmosphere. Oban is an ideal centre for touring the West Highlands and Islands of Scotland with easy day trips to places like Glencoe.

There are also various excursions by boat to the Islands of Mull, Iona, Colonsay and Tiree.

Oban also has excellent pony trekking, diving and other sporting activities such as golf and tennis.

On a more practical note, Oban has a large Tesco store and a Co-Op.
